Acknowledgment a token of good manners

Every time Tony Abbott goes to Mass, does he not make the same invocations and acknowledgments week after week, month after month, year after year (''Welcome to country 'tokenistic' for Labor'', March 16)? And for what purpose? To deepen his understanding of the debt he owes to his God. The church understands the need to repeat the messages in the Mass so that ordinary mortals will not forget to take them into account in their conduct towards one another. In a similar way, this is the point of the acknowledgement of indigenous owners at public functions. It's so we don't forget our relationship with them and the debt we owe indigenous Australians, even when we can't necessarily see them around us. Advertisement: Story continues below So why is Mr Abbott really saying the acknowledgment of indigenous ownership amounts to formalism and tokenism and should not be ''overused''? He, who of all people you would expect to understand the significance of rituals, is showing us he will say and do anything to garner votes from whatever disreputable source to win this year's federal election. Justin Holmwood Asquith Designating something ''politically correct'' is an easy excuse for not doing what you didn't want to do in the first place. The question is: why not? To acknowledge the traditional owners of the land is to confirm a matter of historical fact in a polite and respectful manner. Politeness and respect are evidenced in our society with numerous traditional greetings and statements that could just as readily be denigrated as tokenism. Does Tony Abbott refuse to say ''How're you going, mate?'' or ''That was a lovely meal'' because it has been said so often that it could be perceived as insincere and tokenistic? I think not. So what is his real objection? He cannot deny the fact of prior Aboriginal possession. Is he not comfortable with speakers showing respect to Aboriginal people on formal occasions? Tamsin Clarke Bundeena Tony Abbott has long held the view that he should disrespect traditional landowners by not Rosetta Stone Arabic acknowledging them at official events. During the last federal election campaign, he started his speech at Ryde TAFE, in the electorate of Bennelong, by saying, ''I'd like to acknowledge John Howard as the traditional owner of this land.'' Let's hope he joins Mr Howard on the political scrapheap. Teresa Russell Putney Tony, don't stop at Welcome to Country. There are also the tokenistic Lord's Prayer at the beginning of Parliament and the national anthem at sporting events. John Truman Chatswood There are few times I agree with anything Wilson Tuckey says but his views on the so-called indigenous ''welcome ceremonies'' are spot on. I have seen a number of these ceremonies and every time I get the distinct impression I need to feel guilty for being in my own country. Well, guess what? I don't. Norman Arnott Forestville When Wilson Tuckey was making his comment about overweight Aborigines, the camera panned back so that we could see him - it was not a pretty picture. John Moseley Newcastle Reasoned debate needs the patience of a saint In his call for reasoned debate, Neil Ormerod (Letters, March 16) seems to have overlooked the fact that his entire field is based on faith which, by definition, disregards evidence. Richard Dawkins, on the other hand, is an eminent practitioner in science, where reasoned debate is the standard mode of discourse and demonstrable truth the highest value. When reasoned debate is confronted by unreasonable faith, it is hardly surprising that the standard of the discussion is lowered. But to blame the reasoned debater for that outcome is surely unfair. Laurie McGinness Mona Vale Neil Ormerod says ridicule does not pass for reasoned argument when it comes to considering candidates for sainthood, yet considers a reasoned argument to be: ''If medicine can't yet account for it, it must have been God.'' Ridicule is exactly what he should expect.

Egypt Live Report

News from the Baghdad office: The Iraqi government is offering money and free flights to Iraqi citizens in Egypt who want to escape the raging protests. More than 1,700 Iraqis have so far taken up the offer to return home, making use of Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki's personal plane and one provided by transport ministry. Families who opt to stay in Egypt are also to receive financial support. 1415 GMT: Mubarak's apparent departure to Sharm, appears to do little to placate protesters. "He has to leave the country, our demands are clear," says Magdy Sabry, one of thousands blockading the state television building in central Cairo. Advertisement: Story continues below 1409 GMT:Mohammed Abdellah, a spokesman for the ruling National Democratic Party, tells our reporter that the president and his family are in the resort. Is this a show of strength, or getting out while the going's good? 1359 GMT: Mubarak's party tells he and and his family are in Sharm el-Sheikh. 1355 GMT: Sky News says Mubarak is in Sharm el-Sheikh. 1353 GMT: At least a million Egyptians have taken to the streets of cities around the country today to demand the departure of President Hosni Mubarak, according to an tally of official and witness accounts. 1348 GMT: Tomorrow's rally in Algiers is being organised by the National Coordination for Change and Democracy (CNCD), a three-week-old umbrella group of opposition parties, civil society movements and unofficial unions emboldened by the mass protests in Tunisia and Egypt. The CNCD is demanding the immediate end of President Abdelaziz Bouteflika's regime, citing the same problems of high unemployment, housing problems and soaring costs that have inspired uprisings in neighbouring Tunisia and Egypt. Said Sadi says 10,000 police are being drafted into Algiers, to reinforce the 20,000 who succeeded in blocking the last protest on January 22, when five peole were killed and more than 800 hurt in clashes. 1344 GMT: "He (Mubarak) has to leave the country, our demands are clear," says Magdy Sabry, one of thousands blockading the state television building in central Cairo. "We want the Rosetta Stone English entire (ruling) National Democratic Party to be dissolved and to get out because they have destroyed the country," he says. 1341 GMT: Said Sadi, head of Algeria's opposition Rally for Culture and Democracy (RCD), says authorities have ringed the capital in a bid to prevent people joining tomorrow's pro-democracy march from outside the city. "Trains have been stopped and other public transport will be as well," he says. 1337 GMT: Meanwhile, tension is mounting in another North African country, Algeria. Large numbers of police have been deployed in the centre of the capital Algiers today ahead of a pro-democracy march planned by opposition groups in defiance of a government ban. 1332 GMT: reporter Joe Krauss is on the scene at the state-owned Nile TV building and reports no sign of any violence. The TV station is heavily guarded with tanks and armoured personnel carriers, with machine gun nests on balconies in the massive sky scraper overlooking river. The protesters are drumming and waving flags. The protesters are still dealing with soldiers in a friendly way, Krauss says. 1326 GMT: "Mubarak has left Cairo with all his family," a government source tells , but refuses to say whether the president has left the country or is headed to his residence in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh. 1324 GMT: A crowd has marched along the corniche running along the banks of the Nile in downtown Cairo to the barbed wire barricades defending the TV station, defended by well-armed troops. They halted there and chanted slogans. 1321 GMT: About 2,000 demonstrators are outside the state television headquarters, on the banks of the Nile near Tahrir Square, correspondents say. 1317 GMT: correspondents report that at least 3,000 people have march on Mubarak's main official residence in the upscale Heliopolis neighbourhood, their numbers boosted by hundreds of people arriving from Tahrir Square.

CSOFT International Language Competition on

First ever language race commences on multilingual social learning site SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- CSOFT International Ltd., a leading provider of multilingual localization, testing, and software development services for the global market, announced today the official launch of the “language race” on . This wiki-based competition on the rapidly growing social learning network and online multilingual reference site encourages anyone, writers, linguists and translators to compete to push their native language to the top of the “most active” list. allows users to find terms, definitions, and translations in 75 languages and over 200 industries at no cost to its users. Since the test launch of the race in early February, traffic to the site has increased ten-fold.“An overwhelming majority of online content today is in English,” said Carl Yao, Executive Vice President and head of Global Strategy for CSOFT International Ltd. “We thought it would be Rosetta Stone V3 fun to create a competition so our users can push up lesser known or even endangered languages to the top of the TermWiki glossary.” The TermWiki community has grown 100% since the beginning of 2011. Initially drawing crowds primarily from the translation community, today, the site pulls users from college students and professors to Fortune 500 companies to individuals seeking all types of information and translations. Using TermWiki's intuitive Web 2.0 interface, a user can easily add or upload terms, definitions and translations, and others in the TermWiki community are then able to discuss and give feedback on each term. The site is rapidly gaining ground as the platform of choice for managing terminologies with the introduction of My Glossary in late 2010. “Competition evokes an emotional response when we win or lose and generates participation,” continued Yao. “This is exactly why the TermWiki language race is heating up. Furthermore, by giving contributors their much-deserved recognition, provides its users with a social networking platform through which to connect with friends, peers and other professionals. At the moment, English, Polish, German, Turkish, Japanese, Russian and Greek are leading the race, but the leader spot is a moving target.”

The Israeli report, from Channel 10, says he has gone to the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, where he has a villa. 1246 GMT: Leading dissident and Mubarak opponent, former UN nuclear watchdog head Mohammed ElBaradei Tweets: ?Entire nation is on the streets. Only way out is for regime to go. People power can't be crushed. We shall prevail. Still hope army can join? 1244 GMT: "One human rights measure announced by the President was the cancellation of Article 179 of the constitution, a measure we have long called for, as it entrenches violations relating to arrests, detentions and trials. But he failed to give any timeline for when that would happen," Amnesty said. "The language used by Vice President Suleiman to try to discourage protesters from making their voices heard is also unacceptable. It is ironic that a government which has fired on and allowed thugs to attack peaceful protesters is attempting to persuade protesters to go home by warning of chaos and destruction, the human rights group says in a statement just released. 1241 GMT: President Hosni Mubarak and Vice President Omar Suleiman "utterly failed to respond to the demands of the protesters" in their speeches last night, Amnesty International says. 1233 GMT: CNN text headline: Protesters surround government buildings in Suez, 1220 GMT: "The tension in Egypt has seen some US dollar demand after President Mubarak decided that he would not stand down, after it being widely expected he would do so, fuelling some risk aversion," CMC Markets analyst Michael Hewson tells.

Rowen ''Cool Hand'' Craigie

Tongue-tied ... ANZ chief Mike Smith is struggling with his catchphrases. Illustration: John Shakespeare. Crown Limited's chief executive, Rowen ''Cool Hand'' Craigie, appears to use his time patrolling casino gambling floors to help fine-tune his poker face. Craigie kept financial reporters busy reading his body language and second-guessing his feelings on the casino group's prospects on Friday when he fronted Crown's half-year results in Melbourne. After a couple of questions failed to elicit a sufficiently telling response, one scribe speculated: Advertisement: Story continues below ''It sounds like you're feeling fairly positive but cautious?'' ''I'm sure I'll read it,'' Craigie replied. Another reporter tried a different approach: ''So today, if you were to rate your mood from one to 10, where would it be?'' Craigie replied: ''I'm not sure what your scale is.'' At another stage in the conference, while discussing win rates and the like, Craigie spelt it out for the group: ''On average, the house wins.'' Then, quickly covering, he said: ''That isn't to say that you won't win if you go down there now.'' DEBT AND TAXES The cash-strapped drilling company AJ Lucas has offered some reassuring comments to shareholders who have been deprived of an interim dividend. ''The days of bonuses are over,'' the company secretary, Nicholas Swan, told CBD on the question of whether the group's sale of its stake in a gas field in Queensland could help line the pockets of Lucas executives as well as pay down its crippling bank debts. Swan said no bonuses would arise from the $98.5 million sale. The proceeds will pay down a Rosetta Stone Japanesedebt to the ANZ Bank that has been in breach of its covenants since last year. Hopefully, this should settle the nerves of investors. When the debt-crippled Lucas offloaded another gas deposit for $215.8 million last financial year, it diverted about $16 million of the proceeds in bonus payments to its executives. Swan himself scored a $1.9 million windfall, while his chief executive, Allan Campbell, pocketed $6.5 million on top of his $505,000 salary. At last year's annual meeting, Campbell said Lucas was ''unapologetically a company which rewards success''. On Friday, he still seemed upbeat about the company, which reported a 96.3 per cent dive in half-year profits. He said he had started to detect ''encouraging signs of a pick-up in business confidence''. It is unclear if this pick-up in confidence related partly to the cash-strapped Lucas entering into a ''deferred instalment arrangement'' with the Tax Office last Thursday to pay off its $69.8 million tax bill over three years. In its half-year accounts, the company also said there was a ''trigger event'' on its convertible preference shares. It was triggered when it failed to pay a half-yearly interest payment on time. THE BIG MEN FLY It seems the rivalry between the Sydney Swans and Sydney's second AFL team, Greater Western Sydney, has got off to an overly friendly start - at least in the corporate sphere. After being named the chairman of GWS on Friday, Tony Shepherd, who sits on the board of Transfield Services, noted he had already had a friendly chat with the Swans and ING Real Estate chairman Richard Colless. ''I think we're one plus one equals three,'' Shepherd told CBD. A Geelong fan before he relocated to Sydney in 1979, Shepherd said his recruitment drive might start with Transfield Services' AFL-mad chief executive and Adelaide native, Peter Goode. ''He was really excited about me taking the position,'' he said.

There are fewer than 50 democracies among its 192 members

Eric Shawn, author of The U.N. Exposed: How the United Nations Sabotages America's Security and Fails the World said of Iran election, "If there isn't a more blatant example of the hypocrisy and meaninglessness of some of the decisions over there, I don't know what is. You can't make this stuff up." Syria, on the US State Department list of terrorist nations for the last 30 years was elected as the U.N. Disarmament Commission recording secretary. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has also failed to live up to its mission and founding ideals. It awarded Islam Karimov, Uzbekistan brutal dictator (accused of murder, torture and slave labour of children) the prestigious gold Borobudur medal in 06 for strengthening friendship and cooperation between nations, development of cultural and religious dialogue, and supporting cultural diversity. This was after the European Union voted in October to partially suspend its Partnership and Cooperation Agreement with Uzbekistan8the first time it has ever done so with any country. In 06, UNESCO awarded another tyrant, Venezuelan president Hugo Chvez, the Jos Mart2 ; International Prize, given to those who have contributed to the struggle for liberty. The prize was personally presented to Chavez by Cuban president Fidel Castro. Perhaps the prize was for Chavez taking the UN stage and calling President Bush the devil, saying it smells of sulfur still today" a day after Bush addressed the world body. And just this month, UNESCO sponsored a conference in Beirut that gave international resistance organisations such as Hezbollah a forum to attack Israel and the United States. Last October, Farouk Hosny, Egypt minister for Culture narrowly lost his bid to become UNESCO's next director general after he was considered a shoo-in Rosetta Stone to win the election. In May , Hosny publicly vowed to personally burn any Israeli books found in Egyptian libraries, a pledge that led several leading intellectuals and peace activists, including Nobel Prize winner Elie Wiesel, to call on the UN to spare itself the shame" of choosing such a leader. Reporters Without Borders, the Journalism watchdog, said Hosni did not show his support for the freedom of expression - one of UNESCO's underlying missions - and said that he was one the main actors of censorship in Egypt. After his loss Hosni blamed Zionist pressures and an unnamed group of Jewish leaders who wielded influence on the elections. The real problem is that the UN does not distinguish between brutal dictatorships such as North Korea or Syria and free, democratic societies such as Australia. There are fewer than 50 democracies among its 192 members. To put it bluntly, any genocidal, theocratic or terrorist state is welcomed. That is why Iran President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who denies the Holocaust and has openly called for Israel to be wiped off the map, has been twice invited to speak from the United Nations General Assembly podium. His speech, in which he accused Jews of seeking to "establish a new form of slavery and harm the reputation of other nationsto attain its racist ambitions" was full of anti-Israeli and anti-Semitic language which prompted 11 countries to walk out, including Australia, the USA, New Zealand, Great Britain and France. A few days later Israel PM, Benjamin Netanyahu, hit back at Ahmadinejad's questioning of the Holocaust. Holding up the protocol of the 1942 conference at Wannsee, Berlin, where senior Nazis decided on the extermination of European Jewry, and the blueprints for Auschwitz, including gas chambers and crematoria - where more than one million Jews were murdered - Netanyahu castigated U.N. delegates who remained for Ahmadinejad's speech, To those who gave this Holocaust-denier a hearing, I say on behalf of my people, the Jewish people, and decent people everywhere: Have you no shame? Have you no decency? A mere six decades after the Holocaust, you give legitimacy to a man who denies that the murder of six million Jews took place and pledges to wipe out the Jewish state. What a disgrace! What a mockery of the charter of the United Nations!"

Im almost six seconds adrift

I emerge from the car, toss the keys arrogantly at Mezera and saunter off into the sunset. Cue the girls... In reality I almost stall leaving the pits because the GT3 clutch bites so quickly. I gingerly feel my way around the first corner before the Porsche brutal acceleration smacks me back in the seat. Screaming up to the second corner I underestimate the brakes stopping power and, embarrassingly, have to accelerate to reach the turn-in point. Then it a lottery at each corner as I either bounce over the apex or miss it by an outback mile. Mezera clipped Czech accent comes through the one-way radio in my ear: Calm down, Glenn. Settle into the car and the track. Concentrate on one corner at a time. With those words my nerves recede and I start to enjoy the experience. My confidence builds as I pick off a corner at a time, focusing with tunnel vision on the braking point, the turn-in and then easing off the steering and squeezing the throttle to bring the GT3 raucous racing engine on-song. Mezera tips from the sighting lap come back to me. Dont be brutal with the pedals, ease onto the brakes and off them... The car deserves respect... Be smooth and gentle with the steering wheel... Dont fight the car, work with it. One misconception I had of racing drivers is that they pound the brakes at every corner, and are equally brutal with the throttle out of corners. It a complete fallacy, and some of the best drivers work the pedals so softly they make a lover caress look like a wrestler slap. It all aimed at keeping the car as calm and settled as possible. Anyone who ever ridden a Melbourne taxi would be familiar with the downsides. Rosetta Stone outlet This is especially important in a Porsche 911, where the 150kg engine hanging out over the rear acts like a pendulum. Even Porsche would admit this rear-engine set-up is a fundamentally unstable approach. Yet four decades refining the concept means Porsche modern sports cars are among the most pliable and predictable. The rear-engine layout gives Porsches the most tactile steering of any road car which makes the car front-end footwork as delicate and precise as a professional ballet dancer. It an apt metaphor for Mezera, too, his shoes dancing lightly across all three pedals, blipping the throttle as he brakes into corners to match revs on down-changes. Then, just as I fall into a groove, Mezera voice invades my concentration. That it, Glenn. Five laps done. Cool the car down and bring it in. Returning to the pits I know there will be no headline debut here today. No urgent phone calls from sporting agents keen for a slice of the G-Man future income. Motorsport glory is temporarily postponed. Porsche engineer Greg Wooster interpretation of the in-car telemetry agrees with my amateur status. We overlay my best lap, a 65.8-second stutter and shuffle, with Mezera smooth 60.0sec reference lap. Im almost six seconds adrift. My worst of 69.0 makes for a 3.2-second spread that speaks volumes for my lack of consistency. Consistency, says Mezera, is just as important as outright pace. Turn one is my nemesis. There are three large ripples in the track right before the start of the braking zone. Good drivers like Mezera hold their nerve until after the third bump. Im braking before the second, unsettling the car and missing the turn-in point.

International party people

Photo: Language and culture are no barriers for those who lovea fiesta, writes Guy Wilkinson. AS THE years roll on, many of us have a tendency to cut down onour partying ways. Our hangovers get worse while our lifestyles getbusier. But before you succumb to a life of fluffy slippers, earlynights and steaming mugs of Milo, you might want to considerhitting the road (or dance floor) once more. After all, there aresome truly incredible festivals taking place all over the world atany time of year. Here are some you should definitely mark on yourcalendar. Mardi Gras Advertisement: Story continues below Where: Sydney, Australia When: February 9 to March 2 Many regard this event as the greatest gay and lesbian festivalin the world. This year's event marks the 30th anniversary since itall began back in June 1978. The inaugural march was actually a farless joyous affair than the festival we know of today. In theaftermath of the Stonewall riots in New York, a few thousand peoplefollowed a truck down Sydney's Oxford Street as part of the city'scontribution to the international gay solidarity celebrations. Themarch turned ugly when police began a series of arrests but theevent later became a milestone for gay rights movements. Nowadays, Mardi Gras is far less a protest and more a flamboyantdisplay of gay pride. Among other things, this year's festivalpromises its usual array of outrageous costumes, theatre events, street fairs and, of course, the world famous, eye-popping paradefrom Oxford Street to Moore Park Road. Oktoberfest Where: Munich, Germany When: Mid September to early October You're a big fan of beer. When it comes to a good old-fashioned,thigh-slapping, bench-banging, knees-up, Oktoberfest in all itsbeer swilling glory takes some serious beating. The festival datesback to the early 19th Rosetta Stone software century after a mammoth celebration tookplace to commemorate a royal wedding. Not many people would claimto remember this, however, and the world's largest public festivalis now an unashamed excuse for riotous beer guzzling. With about 14main beer tents to choose from, Oktoberfest attracts an estimated 7million visitors each year. Most tents consist of long tables andbenches, where strangers can sit side-by-side swapping stories to atraditional German musical accompaniment played by men inlederhosen. Visitors may also enjoy being served their favouritebrew by beer wenches in traditional attire. Their ability to carryseveral heavy stein glasses in each hand has to be seen to bebelieved. La Tomatina Where: Bunol, (Valencia region) Spain When: August It's the only place you'll be actively encouraged to pelt thosearound you with rotting tomatoes. Each year tens of thousands ofpeople descend on this normally sparsely populated town to takepart in an epic, yet ludicrous, battle. After shopkeepers andbusiness owners have boarded up their windows, the blasting ofwater cannons signifies the start of an hour-long descent intomushy, red chaos. Held in honour of the town's patron saints, thefestival's origins date back roughly to the end of World War II.

A melting pot may be best path to unity

Treating cultures as a homogenous group doesn't reflect reality. I FELT a chill pass over me last week as I sat in a panel discussion on multiculturalism in Europe at the International Political Science Conference. The issues being discussed were the same as those my colleagues are researching in Australia, but the emerging directions in Europe are disconcerting. There is a dynamic of pendulum swinging between multiculturalism and assimilation that we should be worried about. Advertisement: Story continues below To explain why, it is useful to start with a bit of background. Australia's official policy towards immigrants after WWII was assimilation. Australia drew migrants from a broadening range of countries during this period to power economic growth. But we imposed tough conditions on the new arrivals, who were expected to simply vanish into the dominant Anglo culture. By the late 1960s, a string of reports highlighted the costs of the policy. Immigrants had poor physical and mental health. They were faring badly in the labour market. They were poorer and more likely to be unemployed. They were also being let down by the institutions that were supposed to be a safety net of equality: they were struggling in a school system that made no concessions to their language background or cultural experience; and they were disadvantaged in dealing with government, as nothing was explained in their language or tailored to their unique needs. It was clear that the policy of assimilation was actually creating an underclass. A policy that was blind to how tough it is to arrive in a new Rosetta Stone Software country, and that gave people no recognition or support, plunged migrants to the bottom of the social pile. The response to growing community and government concerns was that the policy pendulum swung to embrace multiculturalism in the 1970s. In the new rhetoric, migrants were to be encouraged to form community groups and gain social and psychological support through continuing their cultural practices. Schools and government would acknowledge the diversity in their midst and accommodate the differences. This was all to flow into more equal outcomes in the labour market and greater social equality. However, two serious problems have emerged. The first has been the effect of governments trying to define a culture. Policies that fund communities have worked to treat cultures as homogenous groups and have tended to let leaders, often older religious men, define the culture. In the process they have failed to recognise that cultures are made up of thousands of often competing and conflicting threads, and are in a constant state of change. If a stagnant and conservative version of a culture is institutionalised, it becomes oppressive; the debate and diversity within a community are silenced. It is difficult for young people to challenge traditional beliefs and they end up being imprisoned by a policy that was supposed to support them. The second problem is the impact on broader societal tensions. The term "multiculturalism" has always carried a number of different meanings. For many people it is just a catch-phrase for embracing diversity. But for others it conjures an image of separate communities living in parallel. The danger lies with this latter image. Political racism works when leaders divide people into separate groups, and then focus on the conflict between them. The rhetoric creates an illusion of homogeneity within both groups and sets the scene for differences to seem irreconcilable. The language of multiculturalism inadvertently follows the same pattern by painting a picture of a society divided into separate groups and suggesting that the different cultures are homogenous and unique.

The Blue Matrix And Body Wisdom

Copyright 2006 Mary Desaulniers Artist as Healer Healer as Artist, Sharlene McLearon creates work that images art as a healing force for herself, others and the Earth. Her paintings are expressive and symbolic. Most are images that emerged from a healing dimension and in their own profound way, will lead viewers to be healed as well. Her paintings speak in unspoken words and open up the heart and mind of the viewer to limitless possibilities. There is more than aesthetic talent in Sharlene's art; there is powerspiritual power.Sharlene has studied art in Canada and abroad-- in Paris, Florence and Chautauqua, N.Y. She was a Docent at the National Gallery of Canada in the 80's. She had solo and group exhibitions in Saudi Arabia, Canada and Germany. The National Museum for Women in the Arts in Washington D.C. recognized her artistic accomplishments in 1993 and opened a file for her work in their Archives. Her art work can be found in private and corporate collections in over 35 countries. UNICEF, Geneva, selected her painting Sunflowers in 1997 and used that image in cards to raise funds in Europe and Asia. Her art can be viewed at her gallery website. What is most amazing about Sharlene is that she is also a Registered Nurse, a journalist who interviewed frontline Saudi and Egyptian troops during the Gulf crisis, naval officers on a warship in the Persian Gulf and doctors who escaped the occupation of Kuwait. As well, she had been a television journalist who scripted, filmed and hosted documentaries for Saudi Arabian TV. In her spare time, she wrote poetry that has been published in Rosetta Stone Korean Saudi Arabia and England. And this is not all about Sharlene. Safely ensconced in London Ontario since 2000, she has literally re-invented herself as a Certified Reiki Master/Teacher, a Master Instructor of Integrated Energy Therapy and the first Blue Matrix Energetics Instructor in Ontario. And it is this latter capacity that points to the common thread that runs through all her incarnationsa powerful connection to the Universal Energy Source that comes from her innate understanding of the wisdom of the body.Blue Matrix Energetics is an energy-based system of healing that involves the laying on of hands to channel powerful, universal life force energy of varying frequencies, says Sharlene. Imagine these frequencies as a stairway of frequency dimensions leading to the Zero-Point Field. We work in the frequency of Ultraviolet Blue for genetic restructuring and physical healing. Then through this stairway of ascending frequency dimensions, we move the client into higher states of consciousness that can be life-changing for him or her. During this process, we can bring about neurological reprogramming of harmful attitudes and remote viewing of the timelines in the client's own life journey. The result is a healing and re-balancing of body, mind and emotions which allows the client to come to a deeper understanding of himself or herself. The treatments themselves are a source of spiritual experience for Sharlene as well. During the treatments, she says, I have amazing visions of Divine Intelligence working on the client to heal, using technology never seen before. The Blue Matrix moves through the body of the client showing me where there is a problem and I see them working on it to heal the area. Many times I see the body rise to the earth's grid and get plugged in, so to speak, for healing purposes. During the final hand position and at the highest frequency I often experience the presence of the Divine. I feel so privileged to be doing this work.

On the other hand, the Mehendi ceremony is performed at the bride’s house where only the female friends and relations of the bride are invited. So, folk dance and music performances by female artists from different regions of India can be orchestrated as per the community of the couple. When it comes to the reception ceremony, there is a lot of scope to entertain the visitors. An assortment of Bollywood song and dance numbers performed by skilled dance troupes, folkdance and music, gazhals, magic shows, DJ mixed dance numbers, simple Shehnai and flute recitals or plain instrumentals from old Bollywood movies etc can be mixed together in different proportions to arrive at a hearty entertainment package.
